As a tool for pulling and pushing aircraft on the ground, the aircraft tractor has become an integral special vehicle of modern military and civilian airport. Towbarless aircraft tractor has a special frame structure, and it must be designed and manufactured specifically, whether the design is good or not has a closely related to its structure. So make research on static and dynamic characteristics of its special frame structure, and then make optimization design of the frame is of great significance.In this paper, the overall performance and using requirements of towbarless aircraft tractor based on the traction of A340 aircraft was first analysis, then outline the entire process of frame design, and then make the finite element analysis and optimization design of the frame. Firstly, make the overall design of the frame according to the design requirements.Then the following design and analysis were conducted at the aspects of the structure of the longitudinal beams, the structure and layout of the traverse beams, the connection types of longitudinal beams and traverse beams. Secondly, make a simplify calculation of the frame using traditional mechanical empirical formula, and deal with the load on frame, check on the flexural strength of the frame, to verify the reasonableness of frame design. Finally, the 3-D frame model was established with the UG software, then leading the model to ANSYS Workbench to conduct the static and modal analysis, and then conduct calculation and analysis of the bending strength under the maximum load working condition. At the last,Using the topology optimization module of ANSYS Workbench, the topology optimization design of the frame was conducted based on the result of static and modal analysis. Compare the original frame to the optimized frame, founding that the performance of the optimized frame has a great improvement, while weight of frame was reduced by nearly 8%, and the lightweight design of the frame was achieved.
