Due to a variety of factors, kinds of ships sailing in rivers and seas are sometimes under accidental conditions, as is the case in collision or stranding event. As this accident event occar which can result in tremendous damage in both economics and ecology. Therefore, it is of remarkable importance to improve the crashworthiness of the ship. Based on seriers of scale model experiments, novel simplified methods of forecasting the crashworthiness of a clamped unstiffened plate and a stiffened plate were proposed. And an innovative material model in combination with two kinds of common used material model was proposed with weighted average method, the simulation results of the models show that use of the material model can improve simulational results. As a consequence, the following studies were taken out in this paper:Firstly, model experiments of clamped plates were discussed about the influence of geometry such as the thickness of the plate and size of the stiffener, as well as the size and shape of the indenter on the crashworthiness of the structure. And can be concluded that it is an effective way to improve the crashworthiness by increasing the thickness of plate adequately and arranging the stiffeners properly. In addition, the size and shape of the indenter also lead to considerable effects on the crashworthiness of the structure.Secondly, based on rigid plastic theory, the plastic deformation of a clamped unstiffened plate under the strike of a spherical hammer can be divided into two parts, namely, global deformation and local deformation, and the deformation of a stiffened plate can be divided into plate global deformation, plate local deformation and the stiffeners deformation, a novel simplified methods of forecasting the crashworthiness of a clamped plates were proposed. The calculation results of simplified method shows a great correspondence with experimental records. Finally, the ture stress-strain relation to the size of mesh grid was proposed by adjusting weighting factor w. In addition, the advantages of two failure criterions were discussed in detail with the finite element simulation result of the models.
