Nowadays,the role of a pilot has changed from the traditional operator to an observer and decision maker. This change increases the pilot cognitive demands for information, because reducing the misreading and enhancing the cognitive ability of the pilot is the trend of human-computer interface design.First of all, this paper makes a detailed description of the relevant theoretical research on cognitive characteristics, and introduces the whole process of the human cognitive information from the outside world. It focuses on the characteristics of human-computer interaction, and establishes human-computer interaction model based on the cognitive ability.Secondly, guidelines for the design of cockpit display interface is the criteria of human-computer interface design. This paper analyzes the military standard, American Standard, advisory circulars and other regulations of airworthiness standards to give the design criteria from the content, layout, display format of the man-machine interface. Then, it studies the display mode and layout of interface information elements, establishes the knowledge expression and knowledge with man-machine interface examples.Next, the simulation platform is constructed,realizing the virtual instrument, communication and other functions. The new design man-machine interface and a model man-machine interface are simulated by using Studio GL.Finally, according to the visual entropy matrix, the cognitive load of the subjects in the two different versions is analyzed. Analysis results show that the human computer display interface design based on the cognitive characteristics is closer to the flight needs, which can improve the cognitive ability and work efficiency of the subjects. It is concluded that the design method of human computer display interface based on cognitive characteristics is of great importance for the design of the cockpit.
