As an effective method to improve the line voltage loss, the series capacitor compensation's penetration rate is relatively low in the electrified railway. In order to solve the limitation of series compensation in the application of electrified railway and fully play the advantages of series compensation, the current application of series compensation installation in the electrified railway is analyzed in this paper. The equilibrium effect of the end series compensation installation of double track traction network on the load currents in up and down overhead contact network of the same power supply arm is studied. The current carrying capacity of the up and down overhead contact network are reasonably utilized through the end series compensation to improve the voltage distribution along the traction network, reduce the loss of overhead contact network and improve the load capacity of traction network.The characteristics of adaptive regulation of the end series compensation with the load current magnitude and load position and reverse voltage compensation are the outstanding advantages of the series compensation. Based on the systematic study of the end series compensation principle of double track electrified railway traction network, the overall scheme, system structure and technical parameters of the end series compensation are analyzed in depth in this paper. The related problems caused by series compensation and the factors that affect the end compensation effect are both studied. The coordination relation of overvoltage protection scheme and component parameters of the end series compensation is analyzed. Aiming at the problems of traction network protection dead zone caused by end series compensation and no-choice action, the impedance protection characteristics of the deviation superposition of the contact circuit breaker of the section post is designed and the scheme of no-delay action of contact circuit breaker protection is proposed. The correct coordination of traction network relay protection is realized and the rationality of the protection action in all kinds of situations is verified combined with the simulation analysis.The specific project of end series compensation is designed according to the analysis conclusion and the research results. The design scheme and parameters of the end series compensation are verified through the simulation analysis of the actual data, which provides a systematic solution for the popularization and application of end series compensation in the electrified railway.
