As the ships tend to diversification, high speed and also a huge growing on volume of vessel traffic, the navigation environment becomes more complicated. As a result, these issues provide a great pressure on navigation safety and lead to a vexed problem for navigator. In order to effectively improve navigation safety in restricted waters(e.g.narrow channel);also evaluate the navigation safety condition and environment. It is necessary to carry a scientific and comprehensive evaluation on how navigation environment impacts on the difficulty of ships handling. The Environmental Stress Model was presented by Kinzo Inoue et al.From the'Person,Slhip and environment' system, the ES Model defines in marine navigator perspective,to evaluate the navigation environment and structure an evaluation standard in specific water area.He used the stress degree of navigator, which comes from environment factors in specific water area as an evaluation indicators. This model provide a basic standard for evaluate the safety status in specific water area environment. This thesis propose a concept of Ship Handling Safety Status, which based on using ES Model to evaluate Ship Handling Difficulty,to quantify variety of factors of ESS Model impacts on the ESS value. Then the author comprehensive considered how average ESS value and Ship Handling Safety Status was influenced by different width of traffic flow,HADT and traffic flow speed. Finally, the research uses the research result to analysis the ship handling safety status in particular channel.
