The Comparative Research On The Strategies Of Conservation Between The British And Chinese Historical Cities

The sustainable development of ancient cities is a popular topic for discussing in academia.Several international charters and documents relating to heritage conservation point out that tourism development is a type of sustainable protection.The key of the topic the strategies and the starting point of the ancient city conservation from the perspective of sustainable tourism.She County,as one of the four well-preserved historical cities around the world,has significant historical value,whereas there is still many weak points in developing tourism.Furthermore,there is a mature and systematic sustainable tourism pattern in Bat,which has the guided and reference meaning and contributes to the application of the ancient walls in She County for world cultural heritage.The comparative research on the two ancient cities could sum up its developmental laws,and find the deficiencies of the current mode for optimizing.The ancient cities have been regarded as a type of rare and non-renewable cultural heritages.The central premise of the development is seeking a sustainable protection pattern,which should take spatial development,the conscious of city users and principles of conservation into consideration.Based on the logic of scientific research,the dissertation takes She County and Bath as examples to study the distinctions of emphasis and strategies by comparing the spatial development,cognitive disposition and policy preferences in order to find a suitable improvement approach of preservation for She County.Hence,the dissertation outlines the basic details about spatial form,architectural characteristics and the current status firstly.The next chapter is to analyze the spatial pattern of cities by Depthmap and four criteria are utilized to research whether the current tourism routes meet the needs for spatial development,there are guiding people,commercial exploitation,space laws and the regional characteristics of the recognized centre of a city.Furthermore,the conscious of city users are discussed by collected questionnaires,which had been analyzed by SPSS.Then,it discusses the differences between the two cities relating to protection principles,regulations and management pattern by literature review in order to compare with the footholds,the renew of heritages,the systems,conservation areas,commercialism in heritages,cooperation mode,propaganda and tourism style.Finally,the suitable measures for conservation could be drawn from the above three tiers.
