Formula SAE(FSAE)has been introduced to China since 2010.This competition has attracted many universities and enterprises to participate in the research and development of FSAE racing car.The design of suspension and steering system as an important vehicle assembly determines the performance of the car.This dissertation taking the FASE car of Hefei University of Technology racing car for the research object,suspension and steering system of racing car is designed and optimized.Finally,the handling stability of the car is verified using ADAMS/Car.Primarily,according to competition rules and vehicle parameters and performance requirements,suspension system is designed.The type of suspension and the wheel alignment parameters and suspension geometry is chosen.Suspension spring stiffness and damping coefficient is calculated.CATIA model of suspension system is got.Secondly,according to the preliminary design of suspension system,the steering system is designed and optimized.The parameters of steering system is chosen.The guiding mechanism of steering trapezium is designed and optimized.Steering wheel and steering gear is designed.The position of splitting point was changed to coordinate the movement of suspension and steering linkages.To improve handling stability of the racing car and reduce tire wear,the multi-objective optimization function is established and the Plackett-Burman unreplicated saturated factorial experiment is designed.Using semi-normal probability plot,sensitivity analysis of the key points in suspension guiding mechanism is performed.The optimization design was conducted with experimental design method.The impact of optimization is obvious compared with the unoptimized one,which shows that the optimization method is advanced and effective.Finally,multi-body dynamic model of the racing car is built based on ADAMS/Car.The accuracy of the model was verified using data acquisition system installed in the car.The virtual handling stability tests are performed using the ADAMS/Car.It is proved that the design of suspension and steering system is reasonable and the racing car having good handing stability.
