A whole trip chain always starts and ends with walk of pedestrian.Though pedestrian traffic is a significant component of urban traffic system,because of increase of motor vehicle and broadening the city road,the conflict between the pedestrian and the motor vehicle is prominent increasingly.Specially in intersection,different traffic flows interlude and disturb with each other at the same time,which affect the walking safety,amenity and convenience.Besides,in major flat intersection,because of over broad crossing roads and large traffic flow of motor vehicle,pedestrians usually can't finish crossing the street within pedestrian green time,which leads to the fact that pedestrians are forced to stay gathered at the center of the road or pedestrians can't endure too long waiting time during red time so that they take a risk to cross the street amongst motor vehicle flow forcibly.Some study shows that to set up pedestrians' safety island which cuts the crosswalk apart into two parts at the center of the intersection and to use the way of pedestrian twice crossing can improve traffic efficiency of intersection effectively.In response to these circumstances,this article have made a deep study on setting up twice crossings way and delay.The specific study work is as follows:(1)Stated and summarized Overseas and Domestic Research Status.(2)Analyzed psychological characteristic and speed characteristic when pedestrians crossed the street by crosswalk at sign intersection;proposed necessity of pedestrian twice crossing based on time and space requirement analysis.(3)This thesis analyzed and concluded adaptability of facility for pedestrian twice crossing in intersection;proposed setting method and condition,pointing at facility for pedestrian twice crossing;using "phase congruency" method,designed phase in pedestrian twice crossing at sign intersection under three phases and four phases;keeping motor vehicle traffic efficiency,fully utilized time and space resource to organize pedestrian to cross the street.(4)This thesis assumed time headway obeyed Weibull distribution and pedestrian arrival obeyed Poisson distribution.Firstly,this article analyzed delay caused by once crossing,then based on this analysis,combining design of pedestrian phase in twice crossings,delay model in twice crossings could be set up.Through inspection of model by simulative software,improvement effect in twice crossings could be demonstrated simultaneously.
