Mixed traffic is the main feature of urban traffic in our country, pedestrians crossing the road is more prevalent, especially in large intersection, it is serious that pedestrians and vehicles to compete right of way, which leads to conflicts increased between pedestrian and vehicle at intersections. Therefore, it is more and more important that selecting appropriate pedestrian crossing facilities to reduce the conflict between pedestrians and vehicles.First of all, this paper analyzes the traffic characteristics of the four aspects, namely: pedestrian basic characteristics, factors kind of pedestrian crossing facilities, pedestrian characteristics and under different control modes of pedestrian traffic characteristics. On this basis, Traffic capacity factors of pedestrian crossing such as pedestrian and vehicle behavior characteristics, different ways to cross the street, different control modes at the intersection are researched.Secondly, on the basis of pedestrian crossing traffic characteristics and the influence factors of pedestrians crossing the street, the optimization model for pedestrian crossing is established by assuming the law of pedestrian crossing the street, and modify the number of traffic crossing the gap model, pedestrian traffic capacity correction model in no signal control intersections can be obtained. For signalized intersections, on the basis of the correction model, pedestrian crossing capacity formula can be obtained.Thirdly, in this paper, the green time represent signal period of signalized intersections, signalized intersections pedestrian crossing delays and delays in the ratio of different ways across the street can be odtained by making use of the simplified formula NCSU delays.Finally, pedestrian crossing capacity in different pedestrian crossing ways can be calculated on the basis of pedestrian crossing capacity correction model. Threshold of no signal control intersections pedestrian crossing facilities can be determined by comparing the calculated results. Different way of pedestrian crossing delays ratio can be obtained by using pedestrian crossing delay calculation method. Selection criteria of pedestrian crossing facilities in signalized intersections combined with the delays ratio and the results of capacity.
