According to the characteristics of high energy consumption and intensive heat release in the data center,the constant temperature and humidity of the data center should be maintained.The air conditioning system of the data center should operate continuously throughout the year.To realize the goal of energy saving,high reliability and fine adjustment characteristics,the separated heat pipe for data center was studied theoretically and experimentally.Based on the existing technology,the significance and advantages of the application of separate heat pipe were analyzed.The model of the separate heat pipe was established.Then the relationship among the heat transfer efficiency,the air flow and windward area was studied to obtain the highest outdoor temperature,power consumption and run time through the year.The numerical research was carried out based on a data center.The temperature field of the center with separate heat pipe was obtained and the result was compared with the center with ordinary air conditioner.To solve the declination of indoor air supply temperature caused by the declined outdoor ambient temperature,the solution of reducing outdoor air supply was proposed.By using the theoretical model,the heat exchange system can be designed according to the heat load and the flexible configuration of the actual room with low construction cost.The theoretical energy consumption analysis was carried out and experiment platform of the separated heat pipe was built.The platform was composed of a simulated heat source with a heating power of 8kW,return air system and an outdoor simulation environment.The optimal heat transfer effect is obtained by adjusting the liquid filling rate of the heat pipe system.The relationship between the air volume and the equilibrium temperature was studied,and the heat exchange capacity and COP at different indoor and outdoor air temperature are obtained.The results of this paper are as follows:(a)under the present structure,the best filling rate at around 46.28%,achieving the design index;(b)when the heat exchange capacity is the same,the equilibrium temperature increases with the decrease of the air flow rate in the evaporation section.(c)when the air volume is the same,the heat exchange rate increases linearly with the increase of the indoor and outdoor temperature difference,and the COP also increases linearly.The conclusions can provide reference for the design of separated heat pipe exchanger in data center.It is found that the separate heat pipe system is energy conserving and suitable for high heat density buildings such as data center and base station.
