The Protection And Renovation Practice Of Vernacular Architecture In Ordinary Villages:CR Hope Town,Jinzhai

The ordinary villages accounts for most Chinese rural area.Compared to traditional villages,ordinary villages are considered as lacking of “highlight” in settlement pattern and architectural features.In the renewal of these villages,numerous remnant traditional residences are abandoned or destroyed.The faded old houses embody rich vernacular culture and the wisdom of life.Protecting and renovating these residences enable us to inherit traditional art and culture,trace the source of "new socialist countryside",and develop their own distinctiveness.Located in the hinterland of Dabie Mountains,Wujiadian Town is influenced by the immigrant culture of Jiangxi and Hubei.The town has been suffering from poverty and ignorance.This paper hopes to study the protection and renovation method of vernacular architectures through the construction of CR Hope Town.The research is divided into three parts: Firstly,summarize the methods from the relevant theory and practice of vernacular architecture.Secondly,study the context and features of local architectures based on the result of field investigation.Thirdly,propose valid protection and renovation strategies.Last but not the least,verify the feasibility of the strategies by practice.The characteristics vernacular architectures are converted into places to exhibit village history and folklore and places to spread vernacular culture,bringing enormous inspiration to the design of new dwellings.This paper not only consists an important part of the research on Jinzhai CR Hope Town,but also lays a foundation for the protection and inheritance of local vernacular architecture.The research hopes to provide some reference for the renewal practice in ordinary villages.
