Sloping breakwater is one of the most common structures in coastal protection works.Overtopping is an important phenomenon in the interaction between waves and sloping breakwaters.It affects the the water or land area behind the breakwater,and can cause the damage of breakwater.Building a crown wall on the top of the breakwater is a common method for preventing overtopping.Compared with traditional vertical crown walls,arc crown wall can reduce overtopping discharge more effectively.Thus it is used more and more widely in the coastal engineering in recent years.Overtopping on breakwaters with arc crown walls is investigated using numerical simulation method.The main contents and results are as follows.(1)Numerical simulations are performed for the overtopping process on breakwaters with smooth slope and an arc crown wall using numerical wave flume based on OpenFOAM.The simulated results agree with experimental data,which indicates that the model can calculate overtopping discharge on sloping breakwaters reasonably.(2)The shape of fence panels and dolos are described accurately by subdividing the mesh.The overtopping process on breakwaters with armour blocks on the slope is simulated.The wave run-up and energy dissipation on smooth slopes and slopes with armour blocks are compared.The effects of different armour blocks are discussed and overtopping discharges are calculated.The results show that armour blocks can dissipate the wave energy during the process of wave run-up.(3)The processes of overtopping on breakwaters with arc crown walls which have different wall toe elevations and shapes of arc are simulated.The influences of different elevations and shapes of arc of crown walls on overtopping and wave forces are discussed.The results can provide some references to engineering construction.
