Fractal geometry set off a firestorm across the world, since its inception in 1975,guiding people to understand the complex world from a new perspective in philosophical level.Till today, scholars have never stopped discussing fractal. The fractal geometry has overturned the ruling position of the European geometry and brought about a new revolution in architecture, which is closely related to geometry. The "thin two dimensional" is based on the fractal theory, and the result is a kind of fractal dimension from one to two.The building facade is composed of a number of lines on the same plane. Its dimension is between one and two dimensions. In this paper, the advantages of using box dimension to calculate building facade dimension are demonstrated. The author has written a calculation program to calculate and analysis different elevations.Through computer modeling and programming software, the author simulates some kinds of facades, and explores the application of box-counting dimension for building design.First, the author introduces the research background of this topic and the present situation of research and practice domestic and foreign, and expounds the research ideas and methods of this paper. In the second chapter, the author focuses on the definition of fractal and "thin 2D",and elaborates the calculation method of "thin 2D" and the reason why selecting box-counting dimension to calculate the complex degree of building facades. In the third chapter, the paper discusses the method of calculating the box-counting dimension with Rhinoceros and its plug-in Grasshopper, and verifies the correctness of the method. Then, the classical architecture facades are calculated and analysised. In the fourth chapter, several simple models are constructed, and the structure of the facade is influenced by the adjustment of the box-counting dimension. Then it discusses the possibility of application of box-counting dimension to building design. In the fifth chapter, the paper analyzes the fractal architecture of Zhang Hua studio, and further expounds the method of building design. In the conclusion part of the thesis, the author summarizes the current research of the subject and makes prospects for its development direction.
