Overhead transmission line has played an extremely important role in the remote power transmission,compared to underground or undersea cables,it is the low cost,high efficiency solution.In the foreseeable future,it will still be the main way in remote power transmission.Overhead transmission lines generally withstand very high voltage level,it extends thousands of miles across the vast and complex topography and climatic conditions,exposed in wind and rain,frost snow and ice.Extreme weather conditions like icing and wind sag and lightning may result in immediate failure of the transmission line,and the impact on the grid safety performance is very great.With the increasing performance requirements of grid security,overhead power line monitoring system is also more and more under consideration.Real-time condition monitoring system for overhead power lines can help operation and maintenance personnel in evaluating critical states and forecasting failures.These condition monitoring systems require a separate power supply,because it can not directly use high voltage energy of power grid.The power supply of the monitoring system should be safe and reliable and its signal processing and transmission systems must be able to confront the huge overhead power line electromagnetic radiation generated and the high-voltage corona and partial discharge generated.The power supply for the condition monitoring system can have a variety of options,in addition to the battery,including solar energy,wind energy,electric and magnetic field energy,each method has its own advantages and disadvantages.This energy harvesting technology attracts more and more attention and research,which is related to two reasons: first,the application has a very clear demand for real-time data acquisition and wireless transmission application,the second is due to modern electronics power devices,their power consumption are getting smaller and smaller,usually it requires only a very little power to run,thus provides a great flexibility in terms of power supply system.In this article,I will study the power supply method for overhead power line monitoring devices based on analysis and discussion,summarizes the various ways for power supply method of overhead power line monitoring device that could be taken,analyze and compare their respective advantages,disadvantages and applicable range,analyze their operating conditions and the important issues to be considered in industrial application,including the reliability of the power supply unit,the capacity,and cost-effective,synergy of power source,energy management and consumption optimization.Finally,the recommendations to improve and optimize energy harvesting methods are driven.
