As an important link in the natural circulation system, rainfall plays a significant role in rainy areas and arid rainless areas. There are a series of water environment problems in residential districts due to the rapid development of urbanization.Based on the vigorous promotion of the Sponge City in China,a growing number of people pay more attention to spongy buildings. The sustainable development theory of modern architecture emphasizes the mutual promotion and coordinated development with traditional architecture.Chinese traditional house is a labor product formed by the ancient Chinese working people during the long period of construction practice, which is full of ecological infrastructure experience and the wisdom of the people. Its purpose is to cope with the constraints of natural and social factors, which is reflected in the combination of architecture and topography, the adaptability to climate and the harmonious coexistence of water environment.Traditional houses are worth our learning in abstract design concept, thinking, and specific design techniques.First of all, this paper summarizes the evolution of traditional residential architecture form and the formation of drainage consciousness.Water has a great value for the traditional dwellings, and plays a decisive role in the early distribution and regional formation of the settlement. The ancient Chinese architecture is mainly wooden frame and loam wall, which can protect against rain and moisture. In ancient times, structural materials, topography and climate conditions seriously restricted building construction activities against the backdrop of backward construction technology.Residential buildings in different regions have different characteristics in site selection, layout, drainage system, etc.Secondly, according to the structure types and materials of different buildings, and the distribution of rainfall and topographic features, the stormwater system of ancient Chinese house was divided.Meanwhile, five typical stormwater systems of traditional house were selected for comparative study.Traditional house is the place where human beings use and transform natural water environment.People have chosen and planned the natural water environment according to local conditions.A series of construction principles and organizational methods around the water environment were formed at the same time. These methods have met the needs of people's survival and development, and optimized the traditional residential environment.Although the customs and climate conditions vary from place to place, most traditional houses will be combined with the perfect whole water system of the settlement to design the stormwater system. Finally,we can derive the abundant ethical spirit of water in human culture, and grasp the experience of combining topography, climate and technology in the construction of residential buildings through the study of the influencing factors of the stormwater system of traditional house. On the one hand,it is beneficial to protect our ancient architectural heritage in the new situation and integrate historical experience with the contemporary environment to better inherit the ancient construction stormwater system; On the other hand, our contemporary stormwater system to be reexamined can provide new ideas and strategies for professionals in building stormwater system design. If the modern residential building wants to coexist harmoniously with the natural water environment, the relationship between the building, site and the rain should be dealt with firsthand. It can be proved that water logging, water shortage and runoff pollution in the major cities are appearing one after another all over the country.
