| The traditional residence is a very important type of architecture in China, animportant part of the ancient civil building system, and a crystallization of thewisdom of many ancestors. Today, people increasingly complain about the monotonyof modernist architecture which is lack of regional characters. In such a situation, thein-depth study of traditional residence is more necessary. In Loudi region, there are anumber of mansion dwellings mostly built in the late Qing Dynasty. Their location,layout and construction have taken into consideration a variety of material factors, butalso take into account pursuit of the natural harmony and unity. These buildings arelarge-scale, exquisite workmanship, and with high scientific, artistic and historicalvalue. But for a long time through the natural disasters, war and the troubled years ofvandalism, the mansion dwellings have had varying degrees of destruction. And onlya small number of relative mansion dwellings are completely preserved, waiting forpeople to study.The main object studied in this article is the mansion dwelling in Loudi. Threequestions mainly discussed are in the following:1, what factors critically influencethe Loudi mansion dwelling’s shape?2, what are the characteristics of Loudi mansiondwelling?3, how to succeed and protect the Loudi mansion dwelling?Based on the author’s field investigations and theoretical studies, the first chapterexpressed the reasons that why carry out the research of Loudi mansion dwelling,analyzed the background of the studying, established the research object and thescope, proposed research problems and research methods, and cleared the research’ssignificance; Chapter II analyzed what influences the Loudi regional naturalconditions and social conditions have made on mansion dwelling’s shape, andorientated the positioning of Loudi traditional residence in the national residentialsystem; Chapter III comprehensively analyzed three instances of mansion dwelling, atthe same time summarized the Loudi mansion dwelling’s characters; Chapter IVdescribed the value of Loudi mansion dwelling, and put forward the ways to succeedand protect the mansion dwelling; the last part summarized the findings of this article. |
