This paper is based on the test method of 3-axis steering test bench, the structural characteristics of the 5-axis performance test bench of steering system are analyzed. The test conditions and test methods of the 5-axis performance test bench of the steering system were studied. The purpose is to provide support for the design and development of steering system. The main contents of this paper are as follows:(1)The design of the overall mechanism of the 5-axis performance test bench of the steering system is clarified. The loading modes are follows: the first, the second and the third axis are loaded with the servo motor, and the fourth and the fifth axis are loaded with the hydraulic servo cylinder.(2)The method of plane analysis is used to study the Bell mechanism of the key component of the test bench, and the transfer characteristics of the Bell mechanism which only change the direction of the force without changing the size of the force are deduced and validated. The three-dimensional model of the 5-axis performance test bench of the steering system was established. The dynamic analysis was carried out by ADAMS software, and the transmission characteristics of the force were also verified. The conclusion was as follows: the transfer characteristics of the Bell mechanism was established as long as the phase angle of the mechanism satisfies the design requirement.(3)The steering system of a typical foreign EPS in the steering system of 5 axis performance test bench(the product is mature and advanced)for steering test, such as the total turn of the diverter test,no-load torque test, function test and stress test, and test results are in line with QC/T529-2000 standard requirements, indicating that the test bench can meet the basic requirements of the test.(4)In the tire run conditions,in the development of the steering system 5-axis performance test bench was tested, such as transmission clearance test, transmission ratio test, steering wheel deflection angle test,no-load torque test function tested. The effect of tire beating on these tests was not signification.Through the analysis and comparison of the test methods and test conditions of the existing steering test bench, the performance test of the steering system product is put forward by using the method of limiting the block diagram to quickly and accurately guarantee the quality of manufactured products.(5)In the development of the steering system on the 5-axis performance test bench under the tire run test, the tire beating on the steering wheel deflection angle, boost current effect is obvious. For the deflection angle of the steering wheel, the tire from the-50 mm up to the 50 mm at the process, the deflection angle first increased and then decreased to the downward trend of the parabola. For the booster current, the tire from the-50 mm up to the 50 mm at the process, when the rod and the rack in the vertical plane of the greater the angle, the greater the booster current.Under different speed conditions, the no-load torque test was carried out on the 5-axis performance test bench of the developed steering system, and the steering torque of the steering wheel was increased with the increase of the vehicle speed.(6)According to the steering wheel deflection angle test, transmission clearance test, transmission ratio test,no-load torque test and the function test data, the preliminary evaluation criteria are provided for the later evaluation of the performance of the steering system.(7)The three-dimensional model of the 5-axis performance test bench of the steering system was established. In the ADAMS dynamic simulation study, the deflection angle of the steering wheel was increased first and then decreased when the tires were from-50 mm to 50 mm,and the deflection range is about 4 degrees,a parabola with downward opening. In the process of the tire from-50 mm up to 50 mm,when the rod and the rack in the vertical plane of the larger angle, the rack moving force in the vicinity of the left and right limits change significantly.
