As the important link between the occupant and the vehicle,a car seat plays an important role in the occupant safety.The suitable design of seat can achieve three functions.First,the seat structure ensures strength requirements in complicate load.Secondly,absorbs much collision energy while it remains its features.Finally,diminishes occupant injury in a collision.Based on the seat of a car,this paper studied the safety of seat by using the finite element method.The main contents was presented in the following paper:First,the detailed seat structure CAD model was discretized and divided into parts(such as skeleton,height adjuster and slide rail and on).According the features of the material,parameters of these components were determined and link method for each part was defined to simulating real circumstances.Secondly,this research chosed Hypermesh and Primer as the preprocessor,LS-Dyna,Nastran and Abaqus as the solver,Hyperview as the post processor.Based on the test condition of GB15083-2006,GB11550-2009,GB14167-2006 and China New Car Assessment Programme(2015),the parameters and boundary conditions of the model was set.These models included modal test,head energy absorption test,static strength test for seat back,static strength test for seat,dynamic strength test for seat,safety-belt anchorage test,ISOFIX anchorage test,luggage impact test and whiplash test.Based on the analysis of the simulation results,the causes of the seats which do not meet the requirements of the law were studied,and the reasonable structural optimization scheme was put forward.Summarized the systematic simulation analysis methods and processes for meeting the safety requirements of the car seat,and provided guidance for the design stage of the car seat.Finally,Bio RID II dummy in the above whiplash model was placed by Total Human Model for Safety.Dummy pose were reset.The seat model was pre-pressed.A seat finite element model was established to simulate whiplash test.The dynamic responses and neck-injuries were compared for two different occupant models in same test conditions.The results show that the THUMS model has good biofidelity with larger neck injury index(NIC),neck shear force,and the torque and tension on neck than Bio RID II dummy model.These will provide valuable references to improve biological fidelity of Bio RID II dummy,which is important for the study of occupants' neck safety protection and the design of the whiplash.
