With the rapid development of social economy , more and more large-span prestressed string beams are used in large public buildings such as stadiums, exhibition centers and so on,however,the large volume and complexity of this structure bring new problems and challenges to the construction process. According to the fact that deformation control for installation and tension is difficult,construction management process is poor in visualization in beam string structure, and based on Changsha International Convention and Exhibition Center project ,BIM Technology brought into the construction process of beam string roof structure and a specific study is made on the application of BIM Technology in deepening design,simulation,assembly and tension control, construction management during the construction process . The main research contents are as follows:(1) A brief overview of the basic knowledge of BIM was made, including the origin,features, software classification of BIM and its application in the construction stage and the role of value.(2) The BIM model was established and the further design was studied, it mainly focused on BIM modeling software selection, the formulation of the rules of the modeling, component library family establishing and model assembling. Based on the BIM model ,the deeping design was made by detailed design for nodel and collision detection for model, finally detail drawings of components and node are issued based on model.(3)The BIM model was imported into MIDAS / Gen finite element analysis software,according to construction scheme of beam string in the project,mechanical properties of the construction process of the structure were simulated.And according to the calculation results of displacement, cable force, strut sag and capitals lateral shift, the safety and rationality of construction scheme were analysised.(4) Based on 3D scanning technology, combined with BIM model and calculation results of construction process simulation analysis, the assembly process of the structure was controlled by pre-assembly and the assembly error analysis in field . After the assembly was completed, the tension deformation of beam string was monitored and compared with the simulation results and the monitoring data by the traditional total station.(5) Based on characteristics of high visualization and informationization of BIM technology, the virtual construction management, schedule management and cost management in the construction process of structure were researched.The results show that the application of BIM technology in the project solves the difficulties and key issues in the process of structure construction effectively,and plays an important role to ensure the safety, cost and schedule in construction. it is helpful to realize the lean construction process with high visualization.
