Since the 20th century, the construction industry has experienced hand-drawing, 2D computer aid design and today's 3D information model. Now BIM, which is short for Building Information Modeling, plays a key role in this revolution, and it aims to build an intelligent and shared building information model. BIM could be combined with some new technology effectively to promote the efficiency and quality of construction, such as 3D laser scanning technology, virtual reality technology and so on.Accomplishing the work of BIM needs many participants to work together. And the participants' requirements also make the levels of using BIM to be different in their own fields. However, for there are some huge differences of traditional structure design and the model requirements of BIM, so the problems about how to combine structure design with BIM effectively in structure engineering have not been solved completely until now. And the problems, key point is the information interaction in structure engineering.To solve these problems, this thesis studied structural BIM model which is based on point data. The main research contents can be divided into three parts:1. It introduced the way and principles of practitioners in structure engineering to manage the engineering information by using structural BIM technology. And it also explained that the structural BIM model has some application values in real scene replication,structure virtual simulation and other fields.2. It explained the methods of building a BIM model with point data, and gave an introduction of 3D laser scanning technology, general handling methods of point data. Besides,the paper put out the way of building a point data BIM model based on REVIT Family. The work of this part should be shown in some real examples, such as the HEU history museum and grid structure of a factory.3. The last key point of the paper is to study the problem of information interaction in structural BIM model. This part showed some data processing methods, such as Industry Foundation Classes (IFC), REVIT Application Programming Interface (API) and so on. And based on earlier studies, combining actual case-a post-disaster restoration of workshop roof rack which has suffered by fire, the thesis gave a new way based on BIM and 3D laser scanning technology to solve the problem that how to check out failure structural components.So, the study is a new trial which cared about exploring a way of model data acquisition by new technology in structural BIM engineering. And it is also to be a reference way to solve the development problem of structural BIM engineering.
