Looking backward to the cost management model of architectural engineering in China, it has gone through a primary stage of hand drawing calculation which based on experiential cost estimation, and now become a computerized drawing evaluation pattern which has introduced evaluating pattern of bill and evaluating pattern of quota for cost estimation. It is shown that the cost evaluating pattern is constantly optimizing, however, there is still a significant gap between the information-oriented, detailed and intelligent management level of the whole construction cost industry and the current development level of Chinese society and economy — it is left far behind the industry development level. For instance, the existing pattern of construction cost management shows common features of low work efficiency, low evaluation accuracy and remarkable error probability, combining with the independency of calculation processes of different stages, the regional difference of evaluation patterns, the delay of updating evaluation data and the difficulty of sharing evaluation data, all of these reasons bring the cost management pattern a great discrepancy with the reality from the beginning of budgetary estimate, and frequently lead to common problems such as "three excesses" and second price adjustment claims.Along with the introduction and the development of Building Information Modeling(BIM), many intellectuals and professionals have raised great concerns about cost management researches based on BIM. BIM technology is a digital representation of architectural geometry, physics and function through the whole building life-cycle, characterized by parameterization, visualization and object-orientation. It includes not only the geometrical data of architectural components, but also a large quantity of extensible construction data. BIM technology has a significant positive effect on aspects of accelerating the construction progress, ensuring the completeness of the construction cost information, coping with the change of design, raising the accuracy of quantity calculation, realizing the information share and collaboration between different departments. The introduction of BIM technology provides a solution to those rising problems in cost estimation industry in China.This dissertation focuses mainly on the question of how to integrate the data knowledge of construction cost with building information modeling, so as to achieve the informatization of construction cost management, developed research and analysis on these aspects:The constitution of construction cost data. Through profound analysis and research on the construction cost data, a system of construction cost data and knowledge is brought up, and an entity list of construction cost data and knowledge is set up in relational database SQL Server, which is regarded as carrier of data and knowledge storage.The establishment of adaptive building information model for construction cost estimation based on BIM platform. By means of comparative analysis towards existing BIM software platforms, it aims to choose a core software platform for modeling, to have further discussion on the hierarchy of building information model based on construction cost data and to build up connection between model and data information, and to establish a complete application framework of the construction cost building information model.Combining with the specific needs from construction project management and solutions from computer science, this dissertation introduced a secondary development of core modeling software Revit, in order to adapt the construction cost building information model. It includes access to the construction cost knowledge database, the acquisition of construction quota of information model's component cost data, the statistics of model's component quantity calculation and the generation of construction cost data, which strive to enhance the application of building information model in construction cost estimation field, and to raise the work efficiency and accuracy.Case studies are provided for further research on the application of building information modeling technology to construction cost estimation, which demonstrate the software interface and advanced features after secondary development, thereby realizing the application of relevance between building information model and construction cost data.
