Space Models Of Time Designing In Western Traditional City Plazas

City Plaza is a vigorous development of human culture and art,is the ideal and desire of human life in city.In the long history of European,city plaza is the only formal public place for citizens,whose appeal and vitality of the artistic value influences western city civilization.For Chinese,the city plaza with the humanistic spirits is imported goods from the western culture.From the end of the last century,the construction of Chinese city plazas were having boomed continuously,but the artistic quality of plaza space remained to be improved.So the purpose of this paper is to look for plaza space design ideas and technique from the Best Western art to be planted in China culture ground.The social attribute of plaza determines that it is a concentrated generant space with all kinds of social activities in the city,which must be asked for visual arts and good effects.The traditional western city plazas were designing by famous artists,these are known by everyone,and were consisted of architectures with the aesthetic value,sculptures pavements,fountains and other works of art.Therefore,the plaza is also the space containing artistic qualities with visual ornamental and tour.In fact,at the end of the nineteenth Century's European industrialized era,western city design father,camillo Sitte for city construction in his book The Art of Building Cities had a deep study about the art quality of the European city plazas,and was against monotonous geometric rules in plaza,proposed that irregular form is the key to art,the scenes in different steps is the art quality.This paper takes the essence of"Varying scenery with changing View-points" from the book as the starting point,to explain the "time designing principle" by graphic methods,reveals the "Varying scenery with changing View-points" is synonymous with the time designing;puts forward the realization form of elements necessary for time designing of the composite line,shape,space and composition of five points,also the graphic;through combing the historical evolution of the western city plaza space with plaza space form and the material elements,the paper excavates the constitution model of space type with features of "time designing" from traditional western city plazas,and founds that the pattern can be traced back to ancient Greece;and through the analysis of Chinese traditional garden,the paper founds the common isomorphism of time designing between Chinese and western outdoor space.Also this pattern in the modern external space design is being used and expanded.Finally,the conclusion is drawn that the"time designing" is a common artistic standard in the design of outdoor space in China and Western countries,which is worthy of inheriting and carrying forward.
