Reciprocating machinery is the key mechanical units in the areas of the petrochemical industry, automobile, ship, but the reciprocating machinery has very complex structure, more vulnerable parts and heavy maintenance work.Failure of critical components often result in downtime on the production process and large equipment, but it is difficult to do the experiment to study the different kinds of faults of reciprocating machinery.In this paper, the diesel engine gear transmission system and the reciprocating compressor piston rod in the reciprocating machinery were analyzed by the dynamic characteristic simulation method. The key parameters that cause the failure and the corresponding fault characteristics were found to compare with the actual fault to guide the corresponding fault diagnosis test and experimental study, thereby reducing the various downtime fault of the reciprocating machinery and increasing the operating life of the machine. The research content of this paper is closely related to the engineering practice, which is of great practical significance to the stable production of related enterprises and to ensure the normal operation of reciprocating compressor units and diesel engine units. The research is as follows:(1) Aiming at the failure of the intermediate gear of the diesel engine gear system, the model of the finite element transient dynamic analysis of the helical gear meshing transmission was established to study the gear contact stress variation of the gear meshing drive under normal and different broken teeth. The conclusions of the finite element analysis were verified by the experiments.(2) Aiming at the fault of the camshaft gear of the diesel engine gear transmission system, the camshaft axial chain and the radial vibration of the intermediate gear, the ADAMS multi-body dynamics simulation software was used to simulate the law of the contact force between the camshaft gear and the intermediate gear, comparing with the actual fault data in the fault case to verify the correctness of the simulation.(3) Aiming at the loosening fault and the piston rod jumping fault of the piston rod of the reciprocating compressor, the failure characteristics of the piston rod loosening fault and the piston rod jumping fault were studied by the multi - body dynamics and the finite element transient dynamics simulation.And the simulation analysis results and actual failure analysis dates were researched in common.
