Urban Waterfront has superior ecological advantages as an important part of urban. With the accelerating process of urban development, the lake area is reduced due to the great number of land development and irrational utilization; lakefront landscape is occupied by abundant commercial real estate buildings; the water ecological environment is destroyed and the ecological function of landscape is missing.Especially the construction of commercial real estate done by developers in recent years has openly changed the waterfront space into private backyard garden. Serious privatization results in problems in management of the waterfront area of poor accessibility of waterfront landscapes and lack of landscape nodes with relatively better experience in terms of the urban road network planning. As a result, water-closing fan can be enjoyed only by the inhabitants living inside the residential area. The paper focuses mainly on the discussion and research on the function absence of the waterfront landscape nodes, the exploration and analysis of the principles and methods of designing the experiencing landscape nodes on the premise of improving the accessibility of roads around lakes, perfecting the urban road network structure and planning the lake around landscape belt in order to propose the improvement strategies and provide a real public waterfront landscape space by the conceptual design referring to the case of South Lake.Consisting of five chapters, in the first chapter, the paper clarifies the background, purpose, meaning and content of the study on this subject. It figures out the insufficient part of the current China's researches on waterfront landscape and the advantages of the foreign researches, and analyzes the current status of lakes in Wuhan city. The second chapter is the core section, introducing the concepts related to waterfront landscape nodes first, summarizing their main types in the next, and then studying the design principles and methods of the waterfront landscape nodes space illustrated by alternate domestic and foreign successful cases according to the design theoretical systems at home and abroad. The chapter also analyzes the relationships among roads, waterfront landscape nodes and the ecological environment in order to organize the waterfront trails and design the humanized water-closing nodes space more effectively to facilitate a better experience of the waterfront landscape for citizens. The third chapter comes up with a conceptual design for the practice of theoretical research mentioned above combining with the graduation project. It analyzes the regional status and current situation of the South Lake; carries out a lake-around road planning for the overall South Lake, reflecting the relationship between the municipal roads and lake-around belts; as well as designs the two typical waterfront landscape nodes in detail. The final chapter concludes the highlights and shortcomings of the paper. The paper has proposed a new idea of designing an experiencing landscape node, recovering the revetment landscape nodes with ecological attributes and returning to citizens a real openwaterfront landscape space by the construction of the lake-around belt. It is conducive to the functional repositioning of the urban waterfront area and shaping the image of an ecological city.
