Traditional cleaning methods for large-scale aero-engine parts such as hot water washing and hot water rising have poor cleaning effect, low cleaning efficiency and cause scratches and damages on the surface of the parts to different extent. So they can not meet the needs of the practical production of aero-engines. In view of the above problems in the cleaning technology of large-scale parts of aero-engine, this paper focuses on the ultrasonic cleaning technology of aero-engine low pressure turbine shaft parts. Based on the research of ultrasonic cleaning technology of aero-engine low pressure turbine shaft parts, a new type of cleaning equipment has been designed. The practical result has proved that the equipment can meet the cleaning requirement of low pressure turbine shaft parts of aero-engine, it can remove the micron, sub-micron grade dirt, grease and carbon deposition both on the inside and outside surface of low pressure turbine shaft parts, with no damage on the parts. This equipment can be widely used in cleaning of the same type of parts, and can meet the requirements of conventional parts cleaning process as well. The main works of this paper are as follows:1, Investigating the state of the art of ultrasonic cleaning industry, especially equipments and cleaning methods of large-scale parts.2, Analysing the principles of ultrasonic cleaning. According to the structural characteristics of low pressure turbine shaft parts of aero-engine, and the features of dirt to be removed, some parameters of cleaning equipment for aero-engine low pressure turbine shaft are confirmed, the frequency of cleaning is 28 k Hz, the total power of ultrasonic cleaning is27 k W, the cleaning liquid is pure water, the cleaning temperature is 60±5℃.3, According to the structure dimension of low pressure turbine shaft parts of aero-engine, and the parameters of ultrasonic cleaning technology, a specialized ultrasonic cleaning equipment is designed. During the development of the specialized cleaning equipment, the double tank cleaning liquid circulation structure and the control structure of the pneumatic cleaning tank cover are developed.4, Using the specialized ultrasonic cleaning equipment, the cleaning process of low pressure turbine shaft parts of aero-engine is determined, including the heating temperature of cleaning liquid, the cleaning time, and the cleaning procedure.Research indicates that the specialized ultrasonic cleaning equipment for large-scale parts and the ultrasonic cleaning process, can meet the cleaning requirement of low pressure turbine shaft parts of aero-engine. The research result has been utilized in actual production,with the same surface purification of parts and a reduction of 60% in the overall cleaning time compared to traditional cleaning method. The application of the technology and equipment can be further extended to the cleaning fields of other parts.
