Building fire protection design is a crucial part of modern architectural design.China has developed several versions of "The National Norm of Building Fire System Design" in order to prevent fire, reduce fire hazards as well as protect the personal and property safety in architectural design. The importance of residential fire protection design is growing rapidly according with the increasing in the number of residential buildings. In this work, combined with the latest version of "The National Norm of Building Fire System Design",we explore the key contents of fire protection in residential building design considering the current fire accidents frequence in residential area.Together the analysis of domestic and foreign norm of building fire system design with China ’s latest architectural design fire safety norms,we analysis one specific case of residential building fire protection design.First,we adopt the latest architectural design fire safety norms of residential buildings to analyse the total plane fire design and the residential unit fire design,so as to provide a new solution to residential fire design. Then we carried out the fire design research of high-rise building units in residential area and analyized common problems as well as the advantages and disadvantages in organizational form of the traffic kernel. At last, fire partition settings are analyzed.Combined with the case study of fire protection design in actual residential area,in accordance with the new fire safety standard from the planning of the total fire design, building monomer fire design and building unit fire design and other aspects,we put forward the design principles and key points in fire protection design which should be followed in residential building design.
