Research On Delay Characteristics Of Complex Airport Operation

In the last decade,air traffic flow continues to increase with the sustainable growth of air transport demand.As a result,airport surface operation becomes more important than ever as the frequently emerged traffic congestions and flight delays due to the imbalance between traffic demand and limited airport surface resources.Optimization airport surface operation has been attracting quite a lot of researchers and engineers.It is of great importance to the improvement of surface operation efficiency by the investigation of the characteristics of airport surface operation,and indications of the influencing factors of flight delay as well as their patterns.This thesis presents the study of the characteristics of flight delay occurred on airport surface both through empirical analysis of historical data and by a simulation study.The main influencing factors of flight delay are firstly qualitative analyzed,and a model is developed to simulate flight traffic on airport surface.The method to calculate flights delay at each operation segment is proposed.The operational data of Hangzhou Xiaoshan Inernational Airport is collected and thoughtfully studied.The weight of each influencing factor is obtained based on the investigation on the data using factor analysis method.The results show that air traffic control,weather,and gate allocation largest impact on flight delays.Then the simulation is set up to study the temporal-spatial characteristics of surface congestion and flight delay.The following four factors' impact on flight delays is then analyzed,namely the flight delivery interval,the number of flights in the departure queue,runway operation mode,and aircraft mix.Finally,the strategies to improve the operation efficiency and to reduce flight delay are proposed based on the characteristics of flights delay in airport surface operation.
