Ship fire is the dangerous safety accident that is not unknown for people in the shipping process. When the fire occurs, it is difficult to get outside help, it can only rely on the crew and the ship fire fighting equipment, fire extinguishing far more difficult than land. Therefore, it is very important to find the fire alarm and take the measures in time.In view of the complexity and particularity of ship fire, domestic and foreign ship manufacturing, scientific institutes have been focused on the topics about the ship fire causes, early warning, detection, alarm and linked fire fighting.The paper proposed a ship fire fighting and monitoring system based on CAN bus after studying ship fire characteristics and monitoring system at home and abroad. The system consists of upper and lower computer and they communicate by CAN bus communication module to monitor ordinary cabin, a battery compartment and a ventilation pipe. Temperature, smoke and hydrogen concentration, damper position are collected by lower single-chip computer and send to the upper computer through CAN bus. The upper computer process and gave instructions of alarming, dampers closing and spray extinguishing. The research results are as follows:1. Studied ship fire's characteristics, harm, causes, preventing and monitoring. Analyzed research status and developing trend of fire detection technology and fire alarm control technology at domestic and foreign. Confirmed the research purpose, significance and content. Gave the design scheme of ship fire monitoring system.2. Selected C8051F330 of Silicon Labs as the controller chip, MCP2515 as CAN independent controller. Designed the circuits of the temperature, smoke, hydrogen, dampers state, alarm, communication and power supply. Designed the PCB with anti-interference measures.3. On the basis of studying CAN protocol, constituted CAN bus message format, programmed data collecting and processing of temperature, smoke, hydrogen and dampers state, worked out control program of communications, alarm, automatic fire extinguishing. Also, the thesis gave the communication program between host and slave computer, and the interface of ship fire monitoring system on the basis of studying LabVIEW software developing platform.4. Tested data sending & receiving of lower computer CAN bus nodes using Bus Analysis tester CANalyst, program of lower computer through the Modbus RTU debugging tools, and Modbus RTU communication between host and slave computer through CAN bus. Proved the signal acquisition and processing function of sub-nodes. The designed system is stable, reliable and easy maintenance, meets the mission requirements.A model for ship fire monitoring system has been developed, and the further work is transition and to apply it to the ship, to satisfy the demands of shipping integrated fire fighting system.
