With the scope of the Arctic ice cap shrinking,the arctic routes are being concerned by shipping industry gradually.And with the improvement of oil and gas resources and mineral resources exploitation technology,the Arctic,which is called "the second Middle East",is gradually becoming the base of resources for humans.Based on these two points,in addition to the arctic countries,not the arctic powers are also preparing for the arctic resources exploration and exploitation and ice transport ships research and development.For a long time,ship research in ice focuses on the level ice.In recent decades,even the direction of the research efforts focused on ice resistance prediction under the level ice condition.But the resistance and self-propulsion prediction in pack ice,the study carried out rare.For ice ship designers and operators,ship performance problem in pack ice is very important.But in our country,ship research in ice zone is at the start-up stage,there is a blank in ice ship performance research,especially test technique of the vessel,researchers didn't ever carry out experimental study.Thus in order to seeking breakthroughs,this paper adopts synthetic ice,and we carry out ship model resistance and self-propulsion experiment in pack ice condition,in the towing tank,Harbin engineering university.In this paper,the main research method is experimental research method,and there is not the related research work in our country,so this paper summarizes the test similarity criterion first,introduces the current development of model ice,and expounds the test data processing method and two methods of testing result conversion: Spencer and Colbourne method.Then we redesign the test scheme,the test methods and procedures.Finally,according to data from the experiment,the resistance test data are analyzed significantly,including the total resistance and pack ice resistance changing with the speed,total resistance and pack ice resistance varying with the concentration,total resistance non-stationarity,motion posture change,under the condition of crushed ice and predicting full-scale resistance performance by applying Spencer method and Colbourne method.For self-propulsion test,because of propeller-ice collision,screw torque exceeds the range of no friction self-propulsion apparatus,which cause the fracture of self-propulsion apparatus.so on account of the self-propulsion test,we summarize the test methods and model-ship correlation method,and analyze the experimental phenomenon.
