In recent years, with people’s lives getting better and better, people’s pursuit have also developed. Thus promote the development of logistics industry. Logistics industry can not get away with truck. Truck can be classified according to the shaft, the more the number of the shafts is, the larger the size is,and the more weight the truck can carry. Trucks have different sizes and Occupy different space. But the space of the parking lot for logistics is limited, how to allocatethespace of the parking lot for logistics is particularly important. Above all, the method of charging according to the size of truck arises at the historic moment. The principle of measuring system for cars’ outline dimension based on embedded system is described as following: on the embedded platform, the images taken by camera are pre-treated, then the car’s outline is obtained by using the calculating algorithm for car’s outline and finally the data about its dimension are calculated.This paper systematically introduces the structure and working principle of this measuring system for cars’ outline dimension based on embedded system. The peripheral hardware circuit was designed based on S5PV210 core chip and the corresponding c language application development was completed. This paper studies the algorithm of image preprocessing and edge extraction based on OpenCV and puts forward the main shaft method combining the vertex chain code with the green function, and the simulation is carried out. The paper finally realizes the extraction of vehicle. external contour size based on the embedded system, and finally shows the performance through the ARM terminal QT interface.The main researching contents and innovated ideas of this paper are described as the following three aspects:One aspect is to combine the three frame difference method with the Canny operator to effectively extract the information of the vehicle’s information. The second one is the improvement of the algorithm of external contour extraction , a new kind of spindle algorithm is proposed, which reduces the time that the software takes and improves the real-time performance of the system. The third one is to combine the algorithm with the embedded system and realize the measurement of vehicle dimensions.The paper carried out five sets of data tests on three models of vehicles.Finally the papers analyzes the statistics of measuring data as well as the error of the data, it is concluded that the errors are below 10%,only a few experiments’s error is beyond the scope of 10% because of artificial operation. The time that software takes is 2 seconds. The technical index of the design of vehicle external profile measurement system is achieved.
