Study On The Site Design Strategy Of Modern Buildings Based On The Morphological Pattern Of Folk Buildings In The South Of Yangtze River

The site accommodates both buildings and activities,thus having natural quality and humanistic quality.The site is an organic whole,combining buildings,people and environment together.The design of architecture always starts with site design which connects buildings and environment.However,in some cases of modern architecture design,the building itself disjoints with the environment in site due to some designers’ lack of comprehensive cognition and objective evaluation of relations between the building and the site.Thus,conducting a relevant study of the site design has become increasingly essential.With a vast territory,different areas have varied site conditions,showing their own distinct geographical characteristics.Good architectural design must be accompanied by good site design which corresponds with geographical characteristics.The research areas is confined to the region south to Yangtze River which is characterized by the subtropical monsoon humid climate,coexistence of hills and plains and abundant water resources.The residential settlement in the south of Yangtze River is the original model of site design for modern buildings in that specific area owing to organically combining with environment in site in a unique way.The main study object is morphological patterns of folk buildings in the south of Yangtze River,ranging from settlement and building complex to a single building.And the object is classified and discussed according the elements in the site environment.To address problems of site design for modern architecture,some site design methods are summarized and extracted from traditional folk buildings,such as complying with the topography,dissolving volume,merging space,soft edge and so on,also grounded by some cases of modern architectural site design.These methods mentioned above are also demonstrated to display how they are applied in the whole architectural design process from theory to practice,using some cases of modern architecture design which are located in the south of Yangtze River and excellent in combing the site with building itself.With inductive researching into considerable good cases,the design wisdom extracted from traditional buildings provides some new ideas for the site design of modern architecture and also plays a certain role in promoting the development of architectural design.Plus,a greater importance should be attached to the relation between buildings and site in architecture practice by designers.
