The operation of distribution network and quality and reliability of power supply have impact on public life and economy. There is a strong possibility that a blackout, which has influence on public life and leads to economic loss for power companies and their customers, might happen due to fault in the distribution network.Rapid fault localization and rapid power restoration help to promote service and reduces loss and duration of power outage.Fault in the distribution network is difficult to locate due to growing and complication of distribution network.By using fault information of distribution network automation platform, this essay treats fault response of relay and circuit breaker as condition attribute and it treats type and extent of fault as strategy attribute.Based on combination of Boolean algebra and identification matrix in Rough Set Theory,it simplifies strategy form featured by network structure in order to get core and condition character. Then the character simplification form and its categorization form are created. They get the simplification rules, eliminate superfluous repeated information and form fault diagnose rules based on all the condition attributes. In distribution network automation platform, according to practical fault response of relay and circuit breaker, the strategy rules is used to identify type and extent of fault.By using fault warning information diagnoses and analysis, this method shows good performance of fault tolerance when circuit breaker refuse to operate or relay operate by mistake. It also demonstrates good performance of judge to some extent by comparing to other strategy rules. This method can offer fast and concise fault diagnose and it applies well in the practical work.
