With the further development of city construction in China,the new construction which built in complex urban environments will be more.It is a difficult question that how to properly handle from all aspects of the design requirements,how to adapt to the environment,and how to dialogue with history.Rafael Moneo,the famous Spanish architect,designed a lot of buildings which properly handled the relationship between historical memory and cultural background in complex environment.And these works has been widely accepted by the society.Rafael Moneo’s architectural typology design method closely connects with history,culture and places,which provides theoretical guidance to solve complex environmental problems.This paper combed the Moneo’s architectural career development course,summarized the characteristics of their works and theory and explained the concept of typology.Then the paper summarized two steps of typology design process which are typology abstract and reality.First,for abstracting the reflect the features of nature in the form of typology,it seek typological image from the historical memory and geographical reality environment,and then itanalyzed its inner structure form by using the name list,analogy method.Second,the process appropriate response to the site in various conditions.And it can make design meet the requirements of environment and meet the requirements of function,and demonstrate its unique artistic features.Then,the paper analyzed two building cases of Moneo.And it researched on multiple extraction and combination of typology in the complete design process.It also researched on comprehensive response under the complex environment and function of workplace design.Finally,it is concluded a typology design method which researched on design conditions,such as place and history.For achieving continuity and development of history memory,overall coordination of place environment,and humanistic care to the social public.
