The head-up display(HUD)is one of the four new navigation technologies decided to be popularized by the CAAC's New Technology Application and Development Working Committee.As an on-board system,HUD can be combined with reliable ILS and low-visibility operation procedures to reduce the Aeronautical Operation Minimum(AOM)for landing.In order to verify that HUD can be used safely under a lower AOM for landing,a scientific safety assessment method of operation with HUD is proposed.Taking Xiamen Gaoqi Airport as an example,combining the influence of HUD equipment during the aircraft approach process,this paper analyzes the ILS equipment,approach lighting system and the AOM for landing at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport.Based on the 50 groups of B737-800-NG simulators data with and without HUD respectively under the Special Authorization Category I ILS operation condition,the impacts of the operation with HUD on the aircrafts and pilots were analyzed.The input and output samples of the BP neural network model were determined according to the results of the analysis,and the BP model was built by MATLAB.The 500 groups of predicted data of the aircraft touchdown positions with and without HUD under the Special Authorization Category I ILS operation condition were obtained respectively.The probability of aircraft touchdown positions with and without HUD was deduced as well.According to Xiamen Gaoqi airport equipment and operation actuality,after identifying the risks of using HUD during approach under the Special Authorization Category I ILS operation conditions,the assessment index of the HUD using operation safety assessment was determined and the safety assessment was made through the risk measurement standard model.The risk mitigation measures are proposed for the risks which may influence the operation safety.Two safety assessment methods for HUD using operation were conducted to verify that it is safe to use HUD under the Special Authorization Category I ILS operation conditions at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport,and a scientific safety assessment model for HUD using operation is proposed.Based on the result of the “Approval and assessment procedure for HUD usingoperation under Special Authorization Category I ILS condition at Xiamen Gaoqi Airport”,the research can be seen as a scientific evidence and theoretical support for the AC-91-FS-2017-03R2 “Approval and Assessment Procedure for HUD using Operation”.
