With the development of global science and technology and the increasing frequency of economic cooperation,the cultural exchanges between China and the West are increasing day by day.The ancient Chinese society and the western ancient society both have the ancient culture and the splendid historical civilization,and has the mutual influence all the time.Architecture is a solidified history.In the collision of Chinese and Western cultures,the origin and development of human living indoor space is an important part in the source of Chinese and Western architectural civilization.This article starts from the residential space,takes the traditional residence of Jiang Nan area in China and the ancient Roman dwelling as the research foundation,analyzes the "courtyard" shape of the two residential spaces in depth,This paper interprets the differences of different regions,cultures and functions in the same spatial form,and analyzes the influence of the "courtyard" shape on the modern living space,and probes into the new ecological housing concept and new design ideas of human beings in the future.Constantly and profoundly understand the environment view and life wisdom of the ancient Chinese and western people.This paper uses comparative research methods to specifically study the similarities and differences between the "courtyard" space pattern in the traditional houses in the Jiang Nan area of China and the ancient Roman houses.The framework of the paper is set to four chapters.First of all,the first chapter is mainly about the background of related topics and the research status at home and abroad,at the same time,it defines the related concepts and words of research objects.Second,the second chapter gives a detailed overview of the development and evolution of China's Jiang Nan traditional dwellings and ancient Roman dwellings.And from the two regional environment,human characteristics,human settlements development and other aspects are described.Thirdly,the third chapter analyzes the origin of the two"courtyard",this paper analyzes the characteristics of the spatial form from the combination form of the courtyard space,the function of the courtyard space,the decorative structure of the courtyard space,and summarizes the difference of the characteristics of the two residential concepts.Finally,through the comparative information collection,seeking common ground while reserving differences,the author explores the inspiration and thinking of the "courtyard”shape to modern indoor living space design under different regions,climate and culture,thus revealing the new development vision of modern interior design.The residential areas in Jiang Nan of China and the ancient Roman dwelling houses represent the two unique systems of Chinese and Western residential architecture.which have some similarities around the planning and layout of the courtyard,but there are great differences in aesthetic,cultural,material and decorative aspects.It mainly comes from different views of nature,cosmology,philosophy and other comprehensive factors,it is under the influence of this kind of different ideas,created a completely different but their own brilliant living culture.Therefore,adhering to the traditional culture,inheriting and carrying forward the excellent national connotation,learning and mastering the foreign traditional culture,taking its essence and removing its dross,using new materials,new ideas,new technologies,for the world to present both traditional and modern,both ecological and individual,both practical and beautiful new indoor living space environment.
