With the development of society and the improvement of living standards,the number of vehicles are increasing every year,which cause a lot of traffic problems such as traffic accidents and environmental pollution.As an important part of the urban road network,the traffic signal control method determines the urban traffic capacity directly.First of all,in order to evaluate the signal control strategy of intersections accurately,this paper designs the structure of traffic hardware-in-loop simulation system.The system is mainly composed of traffic controller interface device(CID),VISSIM-based simulation platform and traffic signal controller.The CID is the hardware core of this system,which includes master control module,power module,vehicle information conversion and transmission module,traffic signal state conversion and transmission module,and computer communication module.The second part is VISSIM-based simulation platform,which includes MATLAB,VB6.0,and VISSIM software.This simulation platform not only has reliable microscopic traffic simulation capability,but also has complex mathematical calculation ability;Secondly,this paper presents a novel traffic evaluation method for connected vehicles,which combines traditional traffic flow theory to calculate the average queuing time at intersections.Meanwhile,based on the average queuing time and capacity of intersections,the signal timing optimization model for connected vehicles is established;Thirdly,to verify the feasibility,this paper evaluates the traditional traffic timing control strategy by both VISSIM simulation and traffic hardware-in-loop system.The test results show that the hardware-in-loop simulation system of traffic signal control can be applied in real experiments;Finally,in order to verify the optimization model established in this paper,it has been tested on the hardware-in-loop under different saturation conditions.The final results show that compared with the original timing scheme and Webster timing scheme,the average queue time and comprehensive evaluation indicator(CI)have been decreased based on the model proposed in this paper,meanwhile the traffic capacity has been increased.Especially,the optimization effects are much better at medium and high saturation.
