With the great development of state grid system and increase of power transmission sequence,more and more power transmission towers have been put into operation,so that the consumption of steel has been risen.Compared with the iron tower with the rectangle cross sections of tower body,the tower having the triangle cross section has the remarkable advantages of less wind resistance,less space demand,and stabilization of structural plane.So far,there are little research works related to such towers with triangle cross section at home and abroad,especially for the communication tower with small triangle steel pipes.Therefore,the study on iron towers with triangle cross sections is a project with theoretical innovation and engineering practical values.This paper is based on theoretical of finite element method of spatial beams,through related specification data using Spas-CAD to model,combined with finite element software ANSYS command flow and GUI operation.Integrating existing high voltage transmission towers with 500 kV,the quadrilateral tower body has been changed to be triangle ones,constructing a new transmission tower model with triangle structures.Meanwhile,the transmission tower model with quadrilateral structures has been built under same heights and foot distances.The 7 load cases are chosen,namely maximum wind speed of 30 m/s and the wind orientation of 0°,45°,60°,and 90°,the bolt load of wire break with a wire,the load with 20 mm ice coverage wire line and double suspension installation load for free-standing tower with straight installation wires.By comparing the static analysis for these 2 structures,under the vertical traverse direction,the file wind area of triangle tower body is less;under the same maximum displacement of two structures,the steel consumption of quadrilateral structures is more than 8% of this of triangle structures.After that,it is based on the model of static analysis,and then model analysis of such 2 structures is studied,the vulnerable spot of structures is discussed.The triangle tower structure mostly belongs to diagonal members,while quadrilateral structure mainly is tabula and diagonal members.At the same time,the time-history analysis of structures under seismic response spectra is further compared.
