In this paper, we mainly studied the effects of three kinds of biodegradable film and residue returning on soil environment and garlic production. The experiment was carried out on Agricultural Research Station of Shandong Agriculture University. The main results were as follows:Biodegradable film could enhance soil temperature and humidity. Differences between three biodegradable film were non-significant, and it was lower sensitive to atmospheric temperature with smaller daily change range than normal polyethylene film. In 2014, The soil humidity of film mulches were higher than no mulch. At the later growth stage, the soil humidity of biodegradable film was lower than normal polyethylene film, which was close to that no mulching. In 2015, with residue returned, soil humidity film mulching was higher.Without residue returned, the soil humidity without mulching is 9.5%—13.5% lower. Residue returning decreased the soil humidity compared with no residue returned because of more soil water was used by residue decay at the early stage.Suitable temperature and moisture increased the microbial population. Without residue returned, the difference of bacterial quantity between different mulching was not significant. The bacterial quantity of unmulching was 6.6%-22.46% lower than mulching treatments. The fungus population of unmulching was 45.45% lower. than biodegradable film, 29.24% lower than normal polythylene film. The actinomyces population of general film was highest. With residue returned, the bacterial quantity of normal film mulching was 35.61% higher than biodegradable and unmulching treatment. Differences between biodegradable and unmulching was not significant. The difference of actinomyces population between residue returned and no returning was not significant With residue returned, the actinomyces population of normal film mulching was 2.86% higher than biodegradable film.Film mulching could promote garlic growing and increase its production. Difference between three biodegradable film was not significant. which was 247-259 kg/a higher than no mulching, and 399.49 kg/a unit of area lower than normal polyethylene film mulching.
