A Survey And Control Strategy Of Major Forest Diseases And Insect Pests In Fangchenggang City

Fangchenggang City locates in the south of Guangxi Autonomous Region, where there is plentiful forest resource, forest area is 330 thousand ha and main tree species are pine, eucalyptus and star anise. The species, distribution, damaging situation and control strategy of forest diseases and insect pests in Fangchenggang City were firstly elaborated. A survey was carried out on forest diseases and insect pests in two districts, one county-level city and and one county of Fangchenggang City including 31 towns and 3 state-owned tree farms, the area of investigation was 3255 thousand mu,245 sample plots were investigated and thirty-three species of forest diseases and insect pests were found, among which Dendrolimus punctatus, Dasychira axutha, Oligochroa cantonella, Hyblaea puera, eucalyptus leaf blight, bacterial wilt of eucalyptus were major forest diseases and insect pests in Fangchenggang City and practicable measures to control them were proposed. Dendrolimus punctatus was the most harmful and the most widely distributed insect pest which occurred in Natong Town and Dongzhong Town of Fangcheng District, Pingfu Town, Hualan Town, Jiaoan Town, Siyang Town, Naqin Town, Zaimiao Town, Qimen Town, Gongzheng Town and Pingguang Tree Farm of Shangsi County, occurrence area was 3300 mu and extent of injury was middle. Hyblaea puera was firstly recorded as insect pest on mangrove in Fangchenggang City, which injured Avicennia mavina in Guangpo Town of Port District, Jiangshan Town ofFangcheng District and Jiangping Town of Dongxing County-level City, occurrence area was 3900 mu and extent of injury was serious. Oligochroa cantonella injured Avicennia mavina and Aegiceras corniculatum in Guangpo Town of Port District and Jiangshan Town of Fangcheng District, occurrence area was 330 mu and extent of injury was middle. It was known that summer and autumn were two season when species of forest disease and insect pest were the most in Fangchenggang City, there were the most species of forest diseases and insect pests on eucalyptus, pine and star anise in Fangchenggang City and there were the most species of forest diseases and insect pests in Fangcheng District and Shangsi County of Fangchenggang City. An integrative control strategy of forest diseases and insect pests in Fangchenggang City was put forward.
