Effects Of The Interaction Of Spraying Calcium And Removing Lateral Buds On The Qualities Of Peony Cut Flowers

Peony cut flower is in great demand on the international market because of its caprice colors and patterns.However,chinese peony cut flower industry has just started,and the development is relatively backward due to the short vast life and the quality of the stem.In this study,10-year-old herbaceous peony ‘Dafugui' and ‘Chun Xiao' were taken as the test materials.In the experiment of pre-harvest spraying calcium,which is called treasure 1,4%Ca?CH₃COO?₂ were sprayed every 3 days at 5 to 6 pm when the diameter of the main buds reached at 1.5cm.In the experiment of pre-harvest removing lateral buds,which is called treasure 2,the lateral buds were removed when the diameter of the main buds reached at 2.0cm.There is another experiment of the interaction of the 2 treasures referred above,which is also called treasure 3.The main purpose of this study is to determine the effects of these 3 treasures on improving the quality of peony cut flowers such as the vast life,full bloom days,the content of soluble protein and sugar of the petals,the content of cellulose and lignin of the stem,and the stem mechanical properties and so on.?1?Effects of different treasures on ‘Dafugui' :The influence on the petals:spraying calcium can shorten the vast life and full bloom days.removing lateral buds and the interaction of the 2 treasures can both prolong the vast life and full bloom days by enhancing the soluble protein and sugar and slowing down the relative conductivity of the petals,but not significantly compared to the control.The influence on the stems:all the 3 treasures are not suitable for improving the stem quality.the flexural rigidity fell 18.94%,32.30% and 28.68% respectively;the elastic modulus fell 27.51%,43.59% and 41.68% respectively;and the maximum tensile force has fallen by 41.51%,26.43% and 39.15% respectively.?2?Effects of different treasures on ‘Chun Xiao' :The influence on the petals:treasure 3 can increase the content of soluble sugar and slowing down the relative conductivity of the petals significantly,and thus prolong the vast life for 1.2d and full bloom days for 1d.The influence on the stems:treasure 3 can increase the stem diameter,and the cellulose and lignin content increased by 11.92% and 46.35% respectively,and the flexural rigidity,elastic modulus and the maximum tensile force increased by 33.62%,70.59%,37.71% respectively.The interaction of spraying calcium and removing the lateral buds could significantly improve the quality of the peony cut flowers ‘Chun Xiao'.To sum up,for the peony ‘Dafugui' which has hard straight stem and less lateral buds,spraying calcium and removing lateral buds is not recommended to to improve their quality;for the peony ‘Chun Xiao' which has tenous stem and more lateral buds,the interaction of spraying calcium and removing the lateral buds can be used to improve its quality.
