In order to evaluate the pellet feed of spent mushroom substrate on the growth performance, digestibility and metabolism, blood index and slaughter performance in sheep. We chose 18 sheep (body weight 24.37±1.45 kg) of 5 month old in Jinzhong. According to weigh and sex, we divided the sheep into 6 repetitions. The first three repetitions we feed corn stalk as the formula feed. We called those three repetitions as control. The second repetitions were called SMS group. The spent mushroom substrate was used in place of corn stalk in this group. After 60 days feeding test, each repetition we chose one sheep for digestive metabolism test and slaughter test with the similar weight. The result showed that, first, the SMS group and control with no significant difference in daily grain(P>0.05), but the SMS group increased the dry matter intake. The feed conversion ratio of SMS group was higher than control(P<0.05). Second, the rumen fermentation was similar between the two groups. The two groups had no significant difference on MCP(P>0.05). The DM, CP, EE, NDF, ADF digestibility of corn group were higher than SMS group, but it was not significant different(P>0.05). The OM digestibility of control was significant higher than the SMS group(P<0.05). The two groups of intake nitrogen and urine nitrogen had no significant difference. The fences nitrogen, digestible nitrogen and retention nitrogen of control were significant higher than SMS group(P<0.05), but the digestible nitrogen and retention nitrogen were opposed. The morphology of intestine was a little different. The crypt depth of duodenum and proximal jejunum had significant difference, that the control was shorter than SMS group(P<0.05). The villous length of distal jejunum that the control was longer than SMS group(P<0.05). But the other morphology of intestine had no significant difference between the two groups. Third was the test animal blood index. The complete blood count test showed that there was nothing significant different between the two groups. The 60 day of the blood chemistries showed that ALB, AST, Cre of SMS group were significant higher than the control. At the 30 day of the test, TB, ALB of SMS group were significant higher. Last the slaughter performance had no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05). The color, shape and texture of liver, pancreas, thymus, spleen were normal. The organ index had no significant difference except the rumen and omasum index. The SMS group with higher rumen index. But on the contrary the omasum index of control was higher. The result shows that the spent mushroom substrate pellet has no effect on slaughter performance, rumen fermentation and toxicity of Jinzhong sheep compare to corn straw. But the corn stalk is better than the spent mushroom substrate at the growth performance, digestibility, intestinal morphology and ruminal cellulolytic bacteria.
