This paper introduces the characteristics and necessities of surge irrigation that has been the best Irrigation method for its water saving effect and economic efficiency. The primary part of surge irrigation is the surge valve, so we designed a automatic driver for the valve witch is mainly used for small amount of irrigation in the hilly and mountainous areas.The design first analyzed all the mechanical and electrical parts the drive device needs, and selected appropriate components according to work characteristics, including the TC35i GSM signal receiving module, STC89C52 Microcontrollers,57BYG250B stepping motor, stepping motor driver TB6600, the power supply for the system and the display system for people's surveillance and observation in convenience. And it designed the corresponding principle diagram and programmed the C programs according to them, making a set of surge valve control device suitable for small scale irrigation in mountainous and hilly areas. Its working process is:the TC35i wireless receiving module receives the control information sent by mobile phone firstly. And then transmits the control information to the microcontroller, STC89C52 microcontroller analyses the information and transmits the command in accordance with the procedure to TB6600 driver, the driver transforms the command into pulse signal and then transmits the pulse signal to 57BYG250B stepping Motor, stepping motor makes the corresponding action in accordance with the requirements of the irrigation mode, and realizes the goal of irrigation requirements through the coupling and surge valve's reversing shaft connection.The design characteristics:(1) The surge valves in this design are adapted to the hilly and mountainous areas which make up a high proportion of agricultural area in china; (2) The use of remote control makes it more convenient to operate; (3) There is no accumulated error in the control position with the use of stepping motor, improving the accuracy of irrigation amount (compare with adjustable-speed motor control); (4)The total design contains 21 kinds of irrigation mode to apply different shapes, sizes of the plots and different requirements of crops, and it can achieve the desired selection only by a short message.Finally, it made a test analysis of the running state of driving device, measuring the cycle time of water supply and the amount of water leakage respectively,and analyzing the obtained data with SAS software, The results show that the relative error of selector valve rotating angle and irrigation cycle is small,and driving device can completely meet the requirements of surge irrigation.
