Urethra stone appears as one of nutritional metabolic disease in feline lower urinary tracts.Great improvement in standards of living led to an increasing number of pet keeping in families.Clinical cases of urethra stone keeps going up with improper practice in feeding.A systemic survey was conducted to analyze epidemiological features, common methods for diagnostic and therapeutic purpose and main ingredients of stone in lower urinary tracts. In addition, the characteristic microstructure and etiology of the urinary stone was described and discussed. We hoped that it could offer insights for clinical prevention and treatment.Test ?:Epidemiology survey of feline lower urinary tract calculus in Nanjing area The clinical cases of feline lower urinary tract calculus(FLUTC)were obtained from 5 representative animal hospitals in Nanjing area from January 1st of 2011 to December 31 of 2014.The results indicated that there were 448 of 12619 outpatients were confirmed to be feline lower urinary tract calculus. The morbidity of feline urolithiasis was 3.55%in Nanjing area.Of the field urolithiasis cases, the male feline was 324 and the female feline was 124.The ratio of male and female was 2.6:1.The average age of the cats with FLUTC was 3.28 ±0.13 years for male and 4.42 ±0.36 years for female. The average weigh of male cats with FLUTC was 5.05 ±0.67 kg,while average weight of females cats with FLUTC was 4.37 ±0.12 kg.These results showed significant difference in statistic(P<0.01).According to these results the cat with lower urinary tract calculus was related to cat's gender, age and weight in Nanjing city.Test ?:Analysis of the chemical composition and microstructure of feline lower urinary tract calculus in Nanjing areaThe chemical composition and microstructure of urinary stones obtained from cats with lower urinary tract calculus from 5 representative animal hospitals described above were studied by chemical qualitative analysis, scanning electronmicroscope(SEM),X-ray energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS)and fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy. The results revealed that two subtypes of feline urinary calculi were categorized according to the main ingredients.Magnesium ammonium phosphate calculi(25/36,69.44%),calcium oxalate calculi(8/36,22.22%)were main stone composition of 2 types.Other 3 calculi samples(3/36)were mixture. In addition to the description of the characteristic microstructure of uroliths, the formation of struvite and its uroliths were briefly discussed.Test III:The diagnosis and treatment of typical clinical cases with in feline lower urinary tract calculusIn clinical cases, different treatment methods should be adopted according to the practical condition and state of FLUTC.Conservative therapy was often used in treating urinary calculi which was not completely blocked the urinary tract.Cystolithotomy and urethrostomy played an important role in cases of bladder or urethral stones of cats.
