The study was conducted to investigate effects of dietary fiber from different sources on physio-chemical properties of digesta and nutrient digestibility in the different segments of the digestive tract in growing pigs.Trail 1 The effect different dietary fiber source on physio-chemical prope--rties of digesta in growing pigsEight healthy Duroc X Landrace X Yorkshire male castrated growing pigs with an average body weight of 30±2.5 kg were allotted to four types of dietary fiber(i.e,wheat bran, rice bran, soybean hull, and broccoli meal)based on a replicated 4×4 Latin square design. All pigs were subjected to cannula surgery two at both the proximal duodenum and terminal ileum. The experiment was performed as a change-over experiment with four period.Pigs were allocated to 4 treatment per period with 2 replicates per treatment and 2 pigs per replicate.Pigs were fed with diets cotained Broccoli meal(BM),Wheat bran(WB),Rice bran(RB)and soybean hulls(SH),respecsively. The results showed as follows:For the pH and viscosity of duodenal digesta, there were no significant differences between four diets(P>0.05).The pH of ileal digesta in wheat bran group and broccoli stem and leaf powder group was significantly lower than the other two groups(P<0.05).The pH of fecal digesta in soybean hulls group was significantly higher than the others(P<0.05).The viscosity of ileal digesta in soybean hulls group was significantly higher than the others(P<0.05).For the water holding capacity of ileal and fecal digesta in broccoli stem and leaf powder group was significantly higher than the others(P<0.05),and the water holding capacity of fecal digesta in wheat bran group was significantly higher than the other two groups(P<0.05).The results showed that the physio-chemical properties of pig digesta among four diets from different sources is different, but the overall trend of each section is same.Trail 2 The effect different dietary fiber source on nutrient digestibility in the different segments of the digestive tract in growing pigsEight healthy Duroc X Landrace X Yorkshire male castrated growing pigs with an average body weight of 30±2.5 kg were allotted to four types of dietary fiber(i.e,wheat bran, rice bran, soybean hull, and broccoli meal)based on a replicated 4×4 Latin square design. All pigs were subjected to cannula surgery two at both the proximal duodenum and terminal ileum. The experiment was performed as a change-over experiment with four period.Pigs were allocated to 4 treatment per period with 2 replicates per treatment and 2 pigs per replicate.Pigs were fed with diets cotained Broccoli stem and leaf powder(BM),Wheat bran(WB),Rice bran(RB)and soybean hulls(SH),respecsively. The results showed as follows:The duodenal apparent digestibility of Ash,CP and starch in WB group was significantly higher than BM group(P<0.05),but the duodenal apparent digestibility of NDF was significantly lower than BM group(P<0.05);the ileal apparent digestibility of Ash and starch in SH group was significantly higher than the others(P<0.05);the total apparent digestibility of Ash,DM,CP and EE inWB group was significantly higher than BM group(P<0.05),the total apparent digestibility of Ash,CP and starch in BM group was significantly lower than the others(P<0.05),but the total apparent digestibility of OM?NDF and ADF was higher than the others(P<0.05).The duodenal apparent digestibility of Ca,P,Mg,Fe,Mn,Cu and Zn in WB group was significantly higher than the others(P<0.05).The ileal apparent digestibility of Ca,P in SH group was significantly higher than BM and RB groups(P<0.05),but there was no significant differences among four groups in the ileal apparent digestibility of Mg,Fe,Zn(P>0.05).There was no significant differences among RH?WB and BM groups in the total apparent digestibility of Ca,P(P>0.05),but SH group was significantly higher than RB group(P<0.05).The total apparent digestibility of Mg in BM and RH groups were significantly higher than RB and WB groups(P<0.05).The total apparent digestibility of Mn,Cu in WB group was significantly higher than RB group(P<0.05),and the total apparent digestibility of Fe was significantly higher than BM group(P<0.05).The total apparent digestibility of Zn in BM group was significantly higher than RB group(P<0.05).By supplementing wheat bran, rice bran, soybean hull, and broccoli meal, the nutrient digestibility of pig digesta show significant variations in a digestive tract segment-dependent manner, regardless the consistent digestion pattern throughout the whole digestive tract.
