Royal Jelly(RJ)is a milky white or light yellow slurry that is secreted by hypopharyngeal gland and mandibular gland of worker bees at 5 to 15 days old.Royal jelly contains many bioactive substances, and therefore has a wide range of biological functions. In order to evaluate the effect on the composition and function of royal jelly harvested in different time, the effects of royal jelly harvested different time(48 h and 72 h)on the composition and the biological function of mice were studied in this paper.A colony of Apis mellifera ligustica was used as experimental material to product royal jelly using the non-grafting larvae royal jelly production technique. In each experimental groups, the yield of royal jelly in a single queen cell and the weight of a single larvae as well as the relative contents of 10–HDA,volatile components and fat-soluble components in the royal jelly were investigated. The results show that when royal jelly was harvested at 72 h the yield of royal jelly in a single queen cell and the weight of a single larvae were significantly higher than that when royal jelly was harvested at 48 h.Moreover, the royal jelly harvested at 72 h contains more specific fat-soluble components, whereas the royal jelly harvested at 48 h contains more unique volatile compositions, although they both contain 21 same types of volatile compositions and 15 types of fat-soluble components. However, the relative content of 10–HDA showed no significant difference between them. The 48 h RJ and 72 h RJ were used as research materials to feed the Balb/c mice by gavage. Each type of royal jelly were set up a high dose group of 9 g / d.kg(48 h RJ-H,72 h RJ-H),a moderate dose group of 3 g / d.kg(48 h RJ-M,72 h RJ-M)and a low dose group of 1 g / d.kg(48 h RJ-L,72 h RJ-L),respectively.The control group was set up by feeding with distilled water. Each mouse in the experimental groups was given RJ with an amount of 10 ml /(kg·Bw),while the control group mice were given the same amount of distilled water. All the mice were fed royal jelly or distilled water daily by oral gavage for 45 days, then were given bromobenzene oil solution by gavage with a dose of 0.3 mg / kg and a volume of 10 ml / kg.After 22 hours, the liver weight and the MDA,SOD,GSH-Px,T-AOC content in the blood and liver tissues of each mouse were collected, respectively. The results indicated that both 48 h RJ and 72 h RJ had the ability to enhance the antioxidant capacity of the mouse with minor differences.Experiment 3 administered the Balb/c mice similarly with 48 h RJ and 72 h RJ by gavage, and all dose groups setting up same as the experiment 2 above. After the delayed type hypersensitivity experiment, and the carbon clearance ability experiment, comparing the difference of immune function. The experimental results show that the weight difference of ear slice of the mice in the 48 h RJ-H group and the three 72 h RJ groups were all significantly different from the control, and the clearance index(K)and phagocytic index(?)of the mice in the 48 h RJ-H group and the 72 h RJ-M group,72 h RJ-H group were also significantly different from the control. So,this thesis summarizes that both 48 h RJ and 72 h RJ have the ability to enhance the immunity of mice, but the 72 h RJ is better than 48 h RJ.
