T. fortunei is a kind of economic plant, one of the palm family plants distributing in the northernmost geographical area. It is a common fiber plant in the south of the Yangtze River in China.Meanwhile, palm does well in improving the ecological environment of rocky desertification. Because of the low seed germination rate, the long growth time and irregular emergence, it is difficult to meet the needs of the production. This research aims to exam the viability of palm seeds under different water-soaking, different storage conditions, and different compound medium, which using the Q2 value of Increased Metabolism Time (IMT), Oxygen Metabolism Rate (OMR), Relative Germination Time (RGT), seed germination rate, germination energy, germination index and morphological indicators of T. fortunei. The results showed as follows:1. Three soaking temperature (25℃, 30℃ and 35℃), four soaking time (2, 3, 6, 9 days) were used for germination treatment. Seed germination significantly increased the viability and the germination energy of seeds. The 30℃ / 6 d soaking created the T. fortunei seed vigor and germination rate, IMT and RGT decreased, and OMR and germination energy significantly increased, which showed the 30℃/ 6 d soaking is the best effect.2. Three common storage conditions, 4℃ cool storage (CS) and sand storage (SS), room temperature air storage (AS),were chosen to conduct comparative experiment with Fresh Seeds (FS).Results showed that three storage methods were all reduced the seed vigor, but the Q2 value of CS and FS were no significant differences, and the germination rate of CS were reached 70.67 %. It is showed that CS is the best storage method of the palm, which could maintain higher seed vigor.3. In this experiment, six kinds of compound medium (pure coir, pure peat, pure loess, coir: river sand =5:5, peat: vermiculite = 6:1, coir: vermiculite = 6:1) were chosen to comparison test. Under the⑤treatment, T. fortunei seed sprouting fast in order, root growing strongly, and germination rate reached 86.67 %, the germination index was 4.27. About 120 days after, the height of palm got 30 cm,and the measurement indexes were significantly better than other treatment groups. So the treatment(peat: vermiculite = 6:1) did best in maintaining seed vigor.
