We collected 96 barley straw samples from the dominant production counties which produce barley in Gansu Province, then we used the CNCPS and NIRS technology to evaluate the nutritive value for barley straw.Additionally,we investigated the feeding effect of the barley straw diet with different starch resources and adding YC on fattening Hu lambs which provided some basic information for evaluating the nutritive value of barley straw and the effect of barley straw diet on the production of fattening lambs.(1)The measurement of nutritive value for barley straw and its CNCPS analysis96 barley straw samples were collected from 13 counties in Gansu Province. We measured their DM,Ash,CP,EE,NDF,ADF,ADL,NDIP,ADIP,SP,Ca,P and other nutrient components. Then we the CNCPS to calculate the carbohydrate and protein respectively. The results indicated that the DM,Ash,CP,EE,NDF,ADF,ADL,NDIP,ADIP,SP,Ca and P of barley straw ranged from 93.63% to 97.27%,4.21~11.57%,2.01~7.83%,2.88~8.34%,58.74~79.91%,29.85~54.13%,1.44~14.10%,0.61 ~1.75%,0.27~0.97%,0.12~5.99%,0.57~0.99% and 0.04~0.17%,respectively.The components of carbohydrate for barley straw using CNCPS were as follows: CHO ranged from 77.07~89.79%,NFC ranged from 5.61~20.26%,CB2 ranged from 5.61~20.26%,CB3 ranged from 33.57~70.36% and CC ranged from 3.47~33.84%.The components of protein for barley straw using CNCPS were as follows: PA2 ranged from 0.12~5.99%,PB1 ranged from 0.19~2.97%,PB2 ranged from 0.00~1.20% and PC ranged from 0.27~0.97%.The content of other items including CA1,CA2,CA3,CA4,CB1 and PA1 was zero. The coefficient of variation for NDF,ADF,CB3 and CC was large and they were 17.38%,16.59%,27.98% and 24.98%,individually.(2)Analysis and prediction for nutritive value of barley straw using NIRSUsing the samples mentioned above to predict the nutrient for barley straw using NIRS prediction analysis. We used 76 and 20 barley straw samples to calibration and validation, respectively. From NIRS prediction and analysis, the model parameters for OM was SNV and detrend 2,4,4,1,the model parameters for CP was SNV and detrend 2,4,4,1,the model parameters for NDF was SNV and detrend 1,4,4,1,the model parameters for ADF was None 1,4,4,1,the model parameters for CHO was SNV and detrend 2,4,4,1,the model parameters for NFC was None 2,4,4,1,the model parameters for CB2 was None 2,4,4,1.The NIRS prediction and validation suggested that the cross validation determinant coefficient was 1-VR>0.8 and verification decision coefficient was RSQv≥0.84.The study suggested that these models can be used for actural analysis. While other items for model establishment did not satisfy the practical level. The model needed improvement.(3)The study of barley straw diet on fattening lambsUnder this experimental condition, the effect of starch resources and adding YC on the fattening performance, slaughter performance, apparent digestibility and the apparent retention content of nitrogen was not significant.Adding 1% YC could increase the nitrogen excretion in the urine and tended to decrease the nitrogen digestibility(P=0.05)and nitrogen intake(P=0.06).The urea nitrogen excretion of fattening lambs tended to be lower using starch from barley compared with using starch from corn(P=0.07).The acetate to total VFA ratio in the barley starch group was significantly higher than corn starch group, while starch resources and adding YC had no significant effect on VFAs,other acids and acetate to propionate ratio. In the current study, starch resources and adding YC had no effect on fattening lambs’ growth performance and nutrient utilization.
