Objective: To explore the correlation of Carbamazepine(CBZ) with occurrence of Electrical Status Epilepticus during Sleep( ESES) in Benign Epilepsy with Centrotemporal Spikes(BECT)..Methods: The clinical data of 6 cases of ESES in 219 cases of BECT in our hospital were analyzed retrospectively. Results:The onset age of 219 children ranged from 4 years to 12 years. there were 6cases of ESES occur among 123 patients taking CBZ(CBZ group),No patient treated with valproate or topiramate showed ESES among 96 patients(non-CBZ group). There was a significant difference between the CBZ group and non-CBZ group(p<0.05).The duration of ESES disappeared off their EEG range between 3 and 6 months after discontinuation of CBZ..five cases of ESES of 6 occur associated with Centrotemporal spikes. Conclusion : CBZ can induce ESES in the treatment of BECT although it rarely happen..There is a certain correlation between ESES and the BECT with spike wave in Rolandic area.
