Objective Esophageal cancer is one of the primary gastrointestinal malignant tumor and it has an serious threat to human health. Half of the new cases was found in china. Shanxi province is one of the high incidence region of esophageal cancer in china. Currently the most effective treatment for patients with esophageal cancer was surgery, but the overall 5-year survival rate of esophageal cancer surgery is still unsatisfactory. And there is no clear conclusion about a lot of factors affect the prognosis. So this article explore the survival status and prognostic factors of esophageal cancer patients after operation, in order to provide the basis for the prevention of esophageal cancer in Shanxi province. Methods The clinical data and follow—up results of 1510 patients with esophageal cancer were analyzed. All the data was included in the Excel database. The statistical analysis was use the SPSS software, and survival rate was calculated use life table method, and the prognosis factors were analyzed by univariate and multivariate regression mode. Results The1-year, 3-year, 5-year, 7-year, 10-year, 15-year survival rates were78%, 47%, 38%,33%, 30%, 27%. Respectively, the median survival time was 2.68 years. In univariate survival analysis, there were significant differences among the survival of income level, smoking, drinking, tumor anatomic site, differentiation of tumor, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis, number of lymph node metastasis, clinical stages, length of tumor, methods of surgical treatment,,anastomotic position, therapy method(P<0.05).pathology shape,There were significant differences among the survival of gender, age, work status, marital status, education years, pathological type(P>0.05). In the Cox regressive analysis, education years, smoking, drinking, tumor anatomic site, differentiation of tumor, depth of invasion, clinical stages, length of tumor, methods of surgical treatment, anastomotic position, therapy methods of patient have been discharged were relevant to the prognosis of esophageal cancer. Conclusions Education years, smoking, drinking, tumor anatomic site, differentiation of tumor, depth of invasion, clinical stages, length of tumor, methods of surgical treatment, anastomotic position, therapy methods of patient have been discharged are related with the prognosis of esophageal cancer patients.tumor anatomic site, differentiation of tumor, depth of invasion, clinical stages, length of tumor are unable to intervene, so patients should change their habits, such as smoking and drinking, clinicians should be under the condition of patients, select the most appropriate treatment measures and solutions, in order to improve the quality of survival, prolong life time, improve the prognosis of patients better.
