Objective: Targeted therapy is an important kind of therapy in treating esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The phenomenon of over expression on EGFR, VEGF and C-erb B-2 is occured in patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. Our project studied the effect of treatments of ESCC on the expression of EGFR, VEGF and C-erb B-2 to provide reliable guidance for clinical treatment. Methods: A restrospective study was carried out among 31 cases with the differences of immunohistochemistry about EGFR, VEGF and C-erb B-2 between pre-treatment and post-treatment in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. The patients accepted neoadjuvant chemotherapy, radiotherapy and surgery between June 2009 and June 2015.Results: In 31 cases of ESCC, 3 cases were excluded because of the failure of the pathological tissues. The other 28 cases were included. The positive expression proportion of EGFR in 28 cases was 71.4%(20/28), and strong positive expression proportion of EGFR was 67.9%(19/28) in 28 cases before treatment of ESCC. The positive expression proportion of VEGF was 50%(14/28), and strong positive expression proportion of VEGF was 7.1%(2/28) in 28 cases before treatment of ESCC. The positive expression proportion of C-erb B-2 was 57.1%(16/28), and strong positive expression proportion of C-erb B-2 was 35.7%(10/28) in 28 cases before treatment of ESCC. There were 8 cases which had pathological tissue residues in esophageal tumor cells of ESCC after treatment.By comparing the expression of EGFR in the pathological tissues of patients with esophageal squamous cell carcinoma before and after treatment, the results could be separated by negative, weak positive and strong positive. And the proportion was 25%(2/8) in expression of EGFR enhanced, 12.5%(1/8) in expression of EGFR negative stability, 37.5%(3/8)in expression of EGFR positive stability and 25%(2/8)in expression of EGFR decreased after treatment. The proportion was 50% which EGFR expression was changed. The proportion was 12.5%(1/8) in expression of VEGF enhanced, 37.5%(3/8) in expression of VEGF negative stability, 12.5%(1/8)in expression of VEGF positive stability and 37.5%(3/8)in expression of VEGF decreased after treatment. The proportion was 50% which VEGF expression was changed. The proportion was 12.5%(1/8) in expression of C-erb B-2 enhanced 25%(2/8) in expression of C-erb B-2 negative stability, 37.5%(3/8)in expression of C-erb B-2 positive stability and 25%(2/8)in expression of C-erb B-2 decreased after treatment. The proportion was 37.5% which C-erb B-2 expression was changed. When the results were separated by negative and positive, the proportion of EGFR positive was 62.5% before treatment and 50% after treatment. The proportion of EGFR positive expression changed 12.5% after treatment. The proportion of EGFR negative expression changed 25% after treatment. The proportion of VEGF positive was 50% before treatment and 12.5% after treatment. The proportion of VEGF positive expression changed 37.5% after treatment. The proportion of VEGF negative expression changed 12.5% after treatment. The proportion of C-erb B-2 positive was 87.5% before treatment and 75% after treatment. The proportion of VEGF positive expression changed 12.5% after treatment. The proportion of VEGF negative expression didn't changed. Conclusions: There were different degrees of over-expression in EGFR, VEGF and C-erb B-2 of ESCC before treatment.Treatments of ESCC could bring the change of expression on EGFR,VEGF and C-erb B-2. The expression of VEGF in ESCC was significantly affected by the treatment. The expression of C-erb B-2 and EGFR were less affected.
